What currency should I bring to North Cyprus?
In Northern Cyprus, the main currency is the Turkish lira, but in all shops or restaurants you can also pay with EUR, USD and GBP (British pound). The only point is that when calculating EUR or USD, the change will be given to you already in TRY (Turkish lira). And the rate will be slightly different than in exchange offices. Coming to the TRNC with the Russian ruble is a big mistake. Since local exchangers will not understand our “papers” 🙂 Take a pound of sterling with you – you won’t go wrong!
How much do products cost in local stores?
In order to avoid disputes regarding prices in stores. We will write an average price. For example, in Moscow there is “Azbuka Vkusa” – a fairly expensive grocery store and “Auchan” with budget prices. And the prices there will be radically different from each other. Also consider such a concept as seasonality. In another period of time, the same products may be an order of magnitude cheaper or more expensive. Most often, of course, this applies to fruits and vegetables. So, let’s continue… Potatoes – 2-4 liras
Onions – 3 liras
Carrots – 5 liras
Cucumbers – 5-6 liras
Cabbage – 3 liras
Cherry tomatoes – 15 liras
Tomatoes – 3-5 liras
Apples – 8-10 liras
Bananas – 8-10 liras
Oranges – 4 liras
Strawberries – 10 liras
Watermelon – 1-2 liras
Bread – 2 liras
Milk – 8 liras
Egg – 17 liras
Flour – 9-10 liras
Canned tuna (2 cans in a package) – 18 liras
Pasta – 4 liras
Chicken carcass – 30 liras
Lamb – 130 liras
Beef – 90 liras
Fish salmon – 90 liras
Minke whale fish – 30 liras
What is the average bill in restaurants in Northern Cyprus?
The average bill in a restaurant depends, first of all, on the restaurant itself. There are both expensive and medium-priced ones. For example, in cheap cafes and restaurants for 80-120 lira, it is quite possible to have a good lunch. We offer a list of approximate prices: Merjimek soup – 16 liras
Hot dog – 20-24 liras
Burgers – 35-40 liras
Pizza – 35-45 liras
Spaghetti – 40 liras
Caesar salad – 40-50 liras
Coca-Cola, Fanta 330 ml – 8 liras
Ayran – 4-5 liras
In Northern Cyprus, the catering network is very widely developed. Eating “on the street” is very tasty and not dangerous. Restaurants of a higher level, especially of a thematic nature, with excellent musical accompaniment or with colorful local oriental dances, are already more expensive. Prices will start from approximately 25-30 euros per person.
