A commemoration ceremony was held in Lefkoş on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of the death of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. High-ranking officials, military officials, students and citizens gathered at the Atatürk Cultural Center to honor his contribution to the development of the country. The event began with a minute of silence and the performance of the anthem.
Speeches were delivered by President Ersin Tatar, Minister of National Education Nazim Cavusoglu and other officials. President Tatar stressed that Turkish Cypriots gratefully follow the precepts of Atatürk, defending the independence and freedom of the TRNC, and recalled how the great leader sought to develop and protect Turkey at the global level.
Minister Çavuşoğlu noted that Atatürk took his place in history not only as a national hero but also as a leader who inspires the whole world with his values. He added that the main task of the Republic of Turkey remains to educate young people in the spirit of Atatürk’s legacy based on science, freedom and independence.
