Is it possible to visit Northern Cyprus

Are there any islands in the world where you can live easily, silently? Like children, sculpting words on the sand and just surrendering to the waves…

There are many islands on our globe. One of which is Cyprus. Today we will talk about Northern Cyprus, which is officially recognized only by Turkey. Yes, yes, there are two of them. Or rather, there is only one island, but it is divided into two parts. So is it possible to visit Northern Cyprus? Of course, you can. Today, there are two options for entering the TRNC – through Turkey and through Southern Cyprus. Everyone chooses the best route for themselves in terms of rules and financial components. Northern Cyprus is a territory in the north of the island, which was formed in 1974 after a conflict between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. The world community is still arguing and conflicting on this matter. Which is what happens – the official status of the countries of the whole world says as an unrecognized country. But people live here, many students go to get higher education. A great variety of properties are also for sale. Many of your compatriots from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other countries are building successful businesses. Life, as they say, goes on as usual…

How to get through Southern Cyprus

To visit Northern Cyprus, you need to enter the territory of Southern Cyprus. And then get to the border and cross it by land, through the checkpoint. For citizens of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the following documents are required to enter Southern Cyprus:

  • Electronic pro-visa (Russians and Ukrainians)
  • without a visa with a biometric passport (only Ukrainians)
  • national visa of the Republic of Cyprus (suitable for Russians)
  • two and multiple Schengen (can be open)
  • a two-entry and multiple-entry visa to Bulgaria, Croatia or Romania (also, it is possible not to open)
  • without a visa on a residence permit of one of the EU countries (except for the UK and Ireland)

Note that you do not need any special visa to Northern Cyprus to cross the checkpoint.

An important blot

Northern Cyprus, according to the Greek administration, belongs to the Republic of Cyprus. Accordingly, all single-entry visas/visas are suitable for re-entry to the southern part. It turns out that legally you do not leave the country. Another important blot: if at the checkpoint it turns out (when crossing into the TRNC) that you plan to spend the main part of your vacation in Northern Cyprus, then the border guards have the right to refuse you entry.

Via Turkey

Northern Cyprus can be reached through airports and ports in Turkey, bypassing the Republic of Cyprus. To get to Turkey, citizens of the Russian Federation, as well as Belarusians, Ukrainians and citizens of Kazakhstan do not need a visa to Turkey. Accordingly, the conclusion is as follows: it is also possible to get to Northern Cyprus without any visa.

Stamp in the passport

This is a very important point. Remember it and fix it in your memory: when you arrive through Ercan Airport, you can get a stamp of entry/exit in your passport. Give up on this idea. Since later, if you cross the checkpoint to South Cyprus. If suddenly, you want to take a walk, etc., then you will have problems with the Greek administration. Accordingly, when you arrive at Ercan Airport, take “Giriş çıkış formu” on a separate form.

Giriş çıkış formu (Blank)
Giriş çıkış formu (Blank)

The form is located at the entrance to Ercan Airport (at the operator’s cabin). Literally translated as “form of entry / exit”, well, or, migration form. Ask for a stamp to be put on this form, not in your passport. According to local legislation, they have the right to give you from 30 to 90 days of stay in the TRNC. But usually they put 30 days. If you have a “rental contract” declared to the local tax office or a “sale” contract in your own name, then present it. And then, at the discretion of the border guard, you can be given 60 or even 90 days. After these days, for example, 30, you can go to the local police and ask for another extension for 10-20-30 days. As a rule, they make concessions if the reason is good. If you miss these days, you will be asked for a fine of 1.000 Turkish liras for 1 day when you leave the TRNC. So, carefully count your days in Northern Cyprus. By the way, you should know that you can always apply for a residence permit in the TRNC. Contact Veles and managers Vera and Diana will help you. And then, you will be able to stay on the island of Aphrodite for up to 1 year. This will be a very cool time for you. We are sure of it 🙂
