This provided access to tidal water. Thus, the trees began to grow faster. Employees of the reserve hire local residents to work. Along the way, they explain to them how important mangroves are. People began to understand that planting trees would not harm shellfish pickers and fishermen. Many species of commercial fish breed in mangroves.
