The TRNC increases renewable energy potential with more than 300 days of sunshine a year
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, North Cyprus is actively increasing its renewable energy potential. As investment in solar energy accelerates, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, private companies have also begun to invest in the sector.
As part of the European Union’s support, new investments in solar energy worth 4 million euros are planned. In addition, the submarine electric connection project with Turkey, which is under development, aims to strengthen the energy security of the TRNC.
Officials note that the use of solar energy will reduce electricity costs and ensure a green transition in the country’s energy sector.
However, experts emphasize that infrastructure reforms need to be accelerated for large-scale adoption of solar energy. In particular, if funding for electricity storage technologies and smart grids is increased, the TRNC can become a model region in the field of renewable energy.
