Is it worth going to North Cyprus? People’s opinions

During the time that I lived here, I realized one thing: home is not a place, it is a feeling… As soon as you cross the threshold of the house, your soul becomes lighter.

I came to Northern Cyprus almost 20 years ago – on October 24, 2004. And the funniest thing was that he had a suitcase and skis on his back. I thought that I would ski from the mountains… 🙂 Today I am asked: how did you decide to just go to a country unknown to you? How did you manage to learn the language? Why here, and not to Southern Cyprus? The larger my social circle, the more interesting the questions? And I really wondered: why here? What keeps me here? Should we go to Northern Cyprus? I’ve probably heard this question 1-2 million times already… 🙂 🙂 🙂 You see, I can’t tell you 100% that you will like it here, or you will stay here… It’s the same as advising to eat banana pie. Someone likes it, and someone has an intolerance to bananas at the cellular level! You see… 🙂 I’m always traveling the world looking for what I need, but always coming home to find it! Northern Cyprus has become my home. My family is here, my business is here. Over the years, I have made many friends. I’m happy here! I’m home!

Is it worth going to North Cyprus?

It is easier to move to North Cyprus than to the south. This island is attractive for tourists, students, families, as well as investors. Both parts of the island are interesting to visit, but unfortunately we are discussing the northern part of it. Many people start their careers or studies here! The TRNC has good prospects for a developed personality and a creative component. Family, study, business – what else do you need to be happy? In order to consider this issue in a variety of ways, I suggest listening to the opinions of people from different countries. Opinions about Northern Cyprus from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Nigeria and Iraq. Let’s go… 🙂

North Cyprus - Is it worth going to North Cyprus?
North Cyprus

Russia

I have been living in North Cyprus for probably about 1 year. So to say “fresh blood” 🙂 Honestly, I really like it here. Not cold, not hungry 🙂 The weather here is gorgeous. In Moscow, slush and mud are 8-9 months. It’s some kind of horror, it’s just that. And here in winter it is only rainy and even then, the water from the city immediately flows into the sea. Class! The only thing I miss here is fast Internet, large shopping centers and all kinds of entertainment. But this is easily compensated by the sea, mountains and beautiful and clean air. Of the minuses, I will also say – this is constant garbage on the street and stray animals. Damn, I feel so sorry for them… Everyone is hungry and wet running through the streets… 🙁
The food, for example, is just super here. Delicious and environmentally friendly – right from the garden and on the counter! Turkish Cypriots are great, of course, in this regard. They keep an excellent eye on all carcinogens and harmful additives in fruits and vegetables, not like we have in Moscow 🙂 I give this island 9+ out of 10 points. Class! Super! Well done! 🙂

Ukraine

I like that North Cyprus has sea and mountain views (almost) from anywhere on the island. This is especially lacking in my homeland – Ukraine. For example, there is no abomination, slush and dirt on the roads – “everyone’s favorite” spring slurry 🙂 As for food and goods, the choice in the TRNC is not great, in relation to Ukraine. Here I miss large shopping centers and supermarkets. Therefore, I still can’t get used to it, since there was plenty of all this at home. In Northern Cyprus, I live in peace, no one bothers me. In general, I am from Kharkiv. There I was constantly in motion and bustle. Everything is somehow even here, if I may say so… Less crime. In Kharkov, on the street, I could meet alcoholics lying near the entrances or shops. Or homeless people go around and ask for money and the smell is so strong from them. Ufff… Probably, the local authorities are closely monitoring this. If you are not wealthy, then come as a tourist – welcome. And if you want to stay alive, then you need to apply for a residence permit, and this is at least 20,000 dollars in the bank. Not all visitors can afford it! So it’s cool in Northern Cyprus – come! 🙂

Belarus

Ahh… What can I say. So… 🙂 As usual, there were a million thoughts, but when it came to the facts, they evaporated 🙂 If we compare Belarus and Northern Cyprus, I will say this:

  • there is a sea here, but there is none in Belarus
  • The food in the TRNC is delicious and in my homeland it is no worse (everything is also fresh and delicious)
  • Here, children walk safely on the street, and it was not safe at home, and over the past year it has become even worse
  • in Northern Cyprus there are no homeless people and beggars on the streets, and there are a lot of them (in every yard)
  • Over the past year, the situation has changed so much that it has become uncomfortable to live there – “it’s hard to breathe”
  • that’s why my family and I moved to live in Northern Cyprus

It seems to me that everyone here is friendly on the street. They smile and enjoy life. I missed it so much in my country. Why is everyone gloomy there, I don’t understand? Maybe they lack a bicycle, as the postman Pechkin said. “Why was I harmful? Because I didn’t have a bicycle!” 🙂 Okay, just kidding. But I have only positive emotions about Northern Cyprus. So far, I have not met negative and angry people. So, come to our fire. Welcome to North Cyprus! 🙂

Nigeria

I like winter in North Cyprus. I don’t really like summer – it’s hot. It is as hot as in my country. By the way, in Nigeria there is the Gulf of Guinea – this is a bay of the Atlantic Ocean. There are mountains and lakes. Basically, nature is a bit like North Cyprus. We have 36 states, and the TRNC has 5.

We have a lot of young people leaving now, because education is at a low level. That’s why there are so many students in North Cyprus from my country, for example. And having received an education abroad, I can be sure that I will find a decent job in Nigeria. This is 70-80% of the key to success. As for housing, it is much cheaper than in Abuja. In my capital, a one-room house will cost 400-500 GBP per month. And here the same square footage will cost about 300-350 pounds. We do not have, for example, birdhouse houses, as in Northern Cyprus, this is a house of 4-6-8-12 apartments. All our houses are 1-2 floors and are designed for one family. So, I’m a little unaccustomed to understanding that I have neighbors upstairs and downstairs 🙂 I live in North Cyprus calmly and carefree. I can safely leave my apartment or car open. For example, in Nigeria it will not work – you will be ripped off like a sticky 🙂 And also, I want to say that my experience of communicating with the Turkish population is quite negative. Do not confuse with the Cypriots. I’m talking about the Turks 🙂 But the Russians are cool. So I am glad to communicate here with the Russian-speaking population of this island. I have never been to Moscow, Kiev or Minsk. But now I know that there are good guys living there! 🙂

Iraq

Hello world! I am an Iraqi citizen. I have been living in North Cyprus for several years. For me, the TRNC is a small territory of the country, compared to Iraq. For example, we have a lot of landscapes, landscapes and mountainous areas. For me, life in North Cyprus is calm and safe. That’s what I love about it! I miss it a lot and I miss public parks, big shopping malls and good roads here. Overall, the weather here is great! Except, probably, for a very hot summer. And also, I would like to say that Northern Cyprus is a very beautiful place on earth. It will be even more beautiful if the international community recognizes it. Everyone knows Southern Cyprus! But Northern Cyprus is not known to many people.

Summing up

I want to say this: In 20 years, you will be more disappointed with the things you didn’t do. Than the ones you made! So get away from your quiet harbor. Feel the fair wind in your sail. Move forward, act, discover your beautiful places, as I did for myself. North Cyprus is my paradise for today!
