The celebration of May 19, the day of memory of Ataturk, is accompanied by ceremonies and events.

The 106th anniversary of the beginning of the liberation struggle started by Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with his landing in Samsun, as well as Atatürk Memorial Day, Youth and Sports Day on May 19 are celebrated throughout the country with organized events and ceremonies.

The week dedicated to Atatürk Memorial Day, Youth and Sports Day on May 19 started with the solemn lighting of the Youth Torch, organized by the TRNC Ministry of Education. During the week, processions, sports competitions, creative performances and cultural events are held throughout the country with the participation of schoolchildren and students. One of the highlights was the beach volleyball tournament “Champion Angels” and the traditional hike “Going to the future along the path of Birkana Uzun”. There are also 3×3 basketball competitions, handball tournaments, and visits of schoolchildren to the country’s statesmen continue.

On Monday, May 19, the official celebrations will open at 08:00 with a speech by Education Minister Nazim Çavuşoğlu, followed by a state ceremony in Lefkoşa with the participation of TRNC President Ersin Tatar and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey. As part of the events, processions, raising flags, speeches by students, solemn speeches and thematic actions reflecting the significance of this day are planned. Events are also held in Gazimagusa, Kyrenia, Iskele, Lefke, Güzelyurt and Akdoğan.

Commemorative ceremonies are held in all regions of the country with the laying of wreaths at the monuments of Ataturk, the reading of poems, appeals to young people and the holding of festive events. Teachers and students give speeches about the significance of May 19 and Atatürk’s contribution to the development of the younger generation. The program ends with artistic performances, scientific and sports events, which reflect respect for the past and confidence in the future.
