Moving to another country is an interesting, long and, to some extent, exciting process.
Transfer to North Cyprus. To move to live abroad, you will have to think about many issues in advance:
- First, where to go
- secondly, for what period of time
- What will I live on there
- Will I be there as an employee, or will I run my own business?
- How to find a great house or apartment
- How safe is it to live in the country
- and whether I will be able to make new friends there
I think this is not a complete list of questions to myself… And know one thing – after moving, there will be not only new opportunities, in all areas of life. But also additional responsibilities, those that were not in your host country. Since you were citizens there, and here (in a new country), you are a newcomer. And who are you now: an immigrant, an emigrant or a migrant? Let’s take a look at all the definitions in order… 🙂
Migration
In general, migration is a process that combines the movement of people from one place to another. A person, in this case, is called a migrant. The term itself combines two concepts – emigration (“exit”) and immigration (“entry”). There are several reasons for migration:
- Changing living conditions to more comfortable conditions
- Finding a better job and professional realization of yourself and your family
- Obtaining a prestigious education abroad
- Change of scenery due to health problems
- Desire to reside in the country of their religion or for the purpose of changing religion
- Change of unfavorable living conditions (conflicts within the country, or with neighboring countries)
- Creating or reuniting a family with relatives
To be honest, the phenomenon of the movement of people can be divided into many types and people sometimes change the environment, just because they want to. That’s us. These are people! Sometimes you can’t understand us… 🙂
Voluntarily or forced
Of their own free will. By the way, most often moving to another country is forced or voluntary. For example, there is a separate term for forced displacement – deportation. Sometimes the state decides that the presence of a person or a group of people interferes with or slows down this or that process. Or even people do not fit into the “model” of society today and therefore they are deported. Deportation is also often associated with a violation of the law in the host country. Forced resettlement from hot spots or a natural disaster area is also called. Often this movement is followed by a process such as repatriation. Literally, this term means returning to the homeland. It is usually used when talking about the return of immigrants, refugees, prisoners of war or displaced persons.
Voluntary migration
This is when a person, at his own subjective will, without direct coercion, decides to change his place of residence in the expectation of a higher standard of living, certain advantages and new opportunities. For example, temporary and permanent resettlement are also distinguished by terms. If temporarily, then, for example, this region is experiencing a war, natural disasters or a forecast for some kind of disaster. And people are forced to leave their homes. And there is another thing – “permanently” implies leaving forever without the intention of returning.
Regarding the law…
You can move legally or illegally. In the first case, a person officially crosses the border and has legal grounds to stay and live in a new country. He must comply with local legislation, at least somehow try to learn the language. Usually, his family receives documents: a residence permit (residence permit) or even citizenship. Illegal migration is usually accompanied by illegal border crossing. For such actions, for example, deportation takes place from the territory of Northern Cyprus. In relation to the state. There is a distinction between immigration and emigration, and we will talk about them in more detail.
Immigration
This is the entry of a person (or his family) into another country in order to change their place of residence for any reason.
Emigration
Emigrating means a person leaving for another country. It differs only in the attitude of the country to this person: where he enters (means an immigrant), and from where he leaves it – an emigrant. This is the opposite phenomenon to entry, that is, departure for permanent residence in another state. Thus, everyone who changes one country for another becomes both an immigrant and an emigrant. If a person left Belarus for Northern Cyprus, then for the TRNC he is an immigrant, for Belarus he is an immigrant.
Immigration
The prefix “im” in this word is translated as “I move in” or “move in“. Accordingly, this term refers to the entry of foreigners for the purpose of long-term stay or permanent residence.
Business Immigration
To attract business immigrants, many countries offer various resettlement programs. In turn, many people see business immigration as a good way to put their investments into “different baskets”. And also get an additional bonus in the form of permanent residence, residence permit, or even citizenship of another country.
Residence permit or permanent residence?
A residence permit is not a visa
A residence permit is often confused with a long-term visa, for example, a student or work visa. These are not the same thing, they give different rights. The visa allows you to cross the state border. In fact, this is a permit to enter the country for a specific purpose: for study, work, recreation or treatment. But a residence permit confirms the right of a foreigner or stateless person to live in the territory of another state.
What is the difference between permanent residence and a residence permit?
Permanent residence or permanent residence permit has two meanings: legal and domestic. From the point of view of the law, permanent residence is a permit to permanently reside in the country for a long or even unlimited time. This is a legal status that is issued under certain conditions. What is the difference between a residence permit and permanent residence?
At the same time, in real life, they often say “go to Europe for permanent residence”, meaning that a person will live abroad permanently and is not going to return. And with a residence permit, a person, as a rule, will live for 2-3 months and then go back to his homeland. And after 4-5-6 months, he can return to the place where he received a residence permit. Permanent residence status gives a foreigner maximum rights and privileges, more than a residence permit. This status differs from citizenship in that it does not give the right to work in the civil service, participate in elections and receive a pension or benefits.
