In Hong Kong, the number of pandas tripled thanks to the birth of two cubs, brother and sister, on August 15. Before that, only two pandas lived in the city, which did not give offspring. The new addition was the first panda birth in Hong Kong, which aroused great interest among locals.
The mother of the cubs, 19-year-old Ying Ying, and her partner Le Le were donated by China in 2007. Ying Ying became the oldest panda in the world to give birth to cubs for the first time. So far, the babies are difficult to distinguish, but there are slight differences: the female has a darker coat, and the male has darker circles around the eyes.
Recently, China sent two more pandas, An Anh and Ke Ke, to Hong Kong. However, both new pets are in quarantine, and the cubs are still too young to meet the public.
