An enchanting performance played out in the sky over Finnish Lapland. It seemed to be covered with a huge curtain in the form of the northern lights.
This atmospheric phenomenon was captured by a photographer from the town of Sodankylä. At the same time, it was possible to capture a bright red glow, which is rare. It could be seen at about midnight local time.
The aurora borealis began as soon as it got dark and lasted until dawn. The sky lit up now green, then red. Within this light, there was constant movement, giving the impression of a leisurely mesmerizing dance.
Aurora is the glow of the upper atmosphere above the planet. It occurs when the magnetosphere interacts with charged particles from the solar wind.
Most often, auroras appear in spring and autumn. The glow can last from several tens of minutes to several days. Its color is influenced by various factors, including the chemical composition of the atmosphere and weather conditions.
Recently, there has been high solar activity. Because of it, auroras also occur more often. According to NASA, a new strong flare on the sun occurred on October 7.
