Cyprus celebrates Maritime and Cabotage Day today.

На Кипре сегодня отмечают День мореплавания и каботажа.

On July 1, solemn ceremonies will be held in Cyprus on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the Maritime and Cabotage Day. The events will take place in Kyrenia and Gazimagusa. This day commemorates the anniversary of the entry into force of the Cabotage Law of 1926, through which Turkey declared its coastal navigation rights, ending foreign control in territorial waters previously established during the Ottoman period. The law has become a symbol of maritime independence and strengthening the sovereignty of the country.

In Kyrenia, the ceremony will begin at 09:00 at the monument to Ataturk, in Gazimagusa – at 09:30 at the Victory Monument. Both ceremonies provide for traditional elements: laying wreaths, a minute of silence, raising flags and solemn speeches. Marine Lieutenant Okan Kurt will perform in Gazimagusa. These events will highlight the historical significance of the day and its connection to the maritime heritage of Turkey and the TRNC.

In addition to the celebration, two warships of the Turkish Navy will be open to the public: the missile boat TCG İmbat (P-335) in the commercial port of Gazimagusa, and the patrol ship TCG Karadeniz Ereğli (P-1214) in the tourist port of Kyrenia. Citizens will be able to visit them on July 1 from 10:00 to 17:00. This will be a special part of the holiday and an opportunity to get acquainted with the modern naval forces of the country.
