Dozens of Afro-Cubans with lush hair walked the red carpet in Havana. This is the third African-style hairstyle competition in Cuba. Both women and men, and of course, children participate in it.
Elaine Calderón, mother of the contestant:
“My son has been wearing an African-style hairstyle since childhood. He has already participated in several such competitions. He loves it, and he’s also pleased that his hairstyle is related to his African heritage.”
The hairstyle show was held in a drizzling rain, but this did not spoil them. The jury evaluated the health of the hair, the creative approach to creating the hairstyle, as well as its aesthetic appearance.
According to official figures, Afro-Cubans make up a tenth of the island’s population. But it is believed that in fact there are twice as many of them.
