Under the auspices of the presidency and the leadership of the wife of President Ersin Tatar, Sibel Tatar, the presentation of the “Keçada” brand took place. The event was held at the Concorde Tower Hotel in Nicosia with the participation of President Ersin Tatar, his wife, as well as a married couple of the Turkish ambassador to Nicosia and other high-ranking guests. The solemn part included a video about the project, a dervish’s speech and speeches by officials. Handmade felt products available for sale were also presented.
Sibel Tatar stressed that the project is aimed at recycling wool that used to be thrown away, which benefits the environment and the economy. She spoke about the importance of felt in Sufi culture and how this initiative helps to strengthen women’s economic independence by involving them in handicraft production. According to her, felt, as the first textile material in history, will again become part of the culture of the Cypriot Turks.
The project “Revival of Felt in Northern Cyprus” is focused not only on the preservation of cultural heritage, but also on supporting sustainable development. The initiative is already inspiring new projects aimed at protecting the environment and supporting handicraft production. The “Keçada” brand became a symbol of these efforts and received the approval of the public and the participants of the presentation.
