Five days a week, Athena Powell turns her garage in Perth into a temporary food warehouse to help those in need. Everything is free here.
Athena Powell, Perth resident:
“The movement has grown a lot, so many volunteers and so many people in need of help.”
It was her personal experience that prompted the Australian to start helping the people of Perth.
Fresh products come from supermarkets and from producers. More than 500 Feed It Forward volunteers receive them. This is a public charity that was founded in 2018 by an elderly resident of Perth, Monica Morunga.
Monica Morunga, Perth resident:
“Today we save about 70 thousand kilograms of food every week. We feed more than 10 thousand people directly. Up to 700 public organizations help us.”
Cam has three children. She says the food bank is invaluable to her.
Cam, a resident of Perth:
“Given the cost of living, the rental crisis and all that, after two weeks, there is not much left. So it was definitely a godsend for me and my boys.”
Today, Feed it Forward operates approximately a hundred food banks in Western Australia.
