North Cyprus 2021
If we compare what has changed in Northern Cyprus over the past 5 years. There will always be a lot of people who will say that it has only gotten worse. There is a fly in the ointment in any barrel! 🙂 Today I want to objectively recall what has happened for the better, and what has become a little worse. And to discuss what is happening today in Northern Cyprus.
2015-2019
In general, of course, I have been living here for quite a long time. Just so as not to stretch the article for many pages. I want to remember the last 5-6 years. Anyone who has ever lived in Northern Cyprus in those years will unequivocally confirm that there were problems with the Internet. Imagine, they bought a modem (as we had in the 00s) and connected. We caught a net 🙂 Or they sat in cafes and restaurants on purpose to sit at least a little on the Internet. And how not to remember, difficulties (interruptions) with water. Especially in summer. Water was supplied once a week to the tanks. Of course, I often had to order additional water so that the car would come and fill the tank. Now everything has changed, definitely 🙂 These are just memories of those years…
If we talk about the sea and mountains, it has always been good here from the point of view of “nature”. Northern Cyprus captivates with the fact that it has crystal clear water and good air without chemical and toxic industries.

Year 2020
Well, 2020 itself has been a specific year, starting from the month of January. Of course, the quarantine reached us only in March. But it was a terrible year. The borders were closed in our country, and strict quarantine measures were introduced several times. Many business owners have simply closed. And also the cities were empty, as tourists and casino workers, the tourist business – everyone had to leave the island. A similar situation was all over the world – we are no exception. It was a difficult year 2020! You can’t say anything 🙂 But that year, I remember, for example, they began to build the long-awaited “two-lane” road from Alsancak to Karshiyaka (judging by the estimate), but so far they stopped in the middle of Alsancak. Ran out of funds 🙂

But I will say, on my own behalf, the government is good in this regard. They promised for a long time, but in the end they began to build. The quality of the road is good, if you compare, for example, with the Russian quality, then asphalt is definitely better laid here. Not everything was completed in time, but still! The process has begun! You can comfortably drive on 2 lanes… That’s great!
It was not a very pleasant moment when the government resigned at the end of the year. A lot of questions about the paperwork stopped. We have been waiting for 3 months for the new government to be assembled! Somehow we lived through this 2020. It will remain in our memory for a long time. As many people divide life “before and after”. So all of humanity can now be divided into:
- Life before the 2020 pandemic, life after…
North Cyprus Today – 2021
Today, Northern Cyprus has definitely changed. This is not Europe, of course! It’s something between Europe and Asia. A lot of things here have become better, good or even very good. Let’s start with infrastructure. All service enterprises began to work an order of magnitude higher. For example, public services have moved on-line. Not all, of course, but enough! A variety of stores appeared. Burger King has recently appeared here. We really believe that McDonald’s, IKEA and others will enter our market. So far, they are only on the southern side of the island.

What, it seems to me, has not changed and is only getting worse, or stands in one place – the issue is not being resolved. These are two factors: garbage and stray dogs and cats. So far, it has not been possible to accustom the Cypriots to order and cleanliness. The fact remains. But we are honest about it… 🙂 With stray animals, Beledie “howls somehowly” (chips), but somehow slowly. Many of the visitors leave them on the island, they say, it is inconvenient to take them back to the UK, Europe, the CIS, etc. It’s sad to look at this…
There are no such global problems with the Internet as in the 10s. Yes, it is not as fast as in Moscow. But a large number of providers have appeared. And this means that healthy competition will bring progress and global quality in the future. There are a large number of circles for children, various sports (football, basketball, boxing, karate, dancing, etc.). And isn’t it wonderful, friends!
Come to us for the summer. Just relax, swim in the clear sea… And if you decide that Northern Cyprus should become your home for the next 5-10-15-20 years. “Welcome to our hut!” 🙂
